The PlayStation Vita’s launch in Japan may have failed to meet some analysts’ expectations, but the system has still managed to sell a respectable number of units according to deputy CEO Kaz Hirai. Speaking for Sony at CES 2012, Hirai stated that 500,00 Vita units have been sold to consumers since the system debuted on December 17. On the whole, PlayStation hardware moved 6.5 million units over the holiday season. This chunk helps make up the 900 million Sony devices thus far sold under the Sony Entertainment Network branding. Sony Entertainment Network is the company’s current movement to integrate their electronic devices under one network, with a shared online ID and digital wallet. The program is in its relative infancy, but you can expect a greater level of synchronization between PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and other devices in the coming years.
