John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts, is attacking Activision’s Call of Duty franchise head on.  At the Ad Age Digital Conference in New York City today, Riccitiello said, “This November, we’re launching Battlefield 3. It’s going up against the next Call of Duty, which is presently the #1 game in the game industry.  A game that last year did $400 million dollars in revenue on day one. [Battlefield 3] is designed to take that game down.”

As the 2011 holiday season approaches, gamers can expect to see massive marketing campaigns for both Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty.  According to Riccitiello, hundreds of millions of dollars could be spent between the two companies.

Battlefield 3 is being built on the Frostbite 2.0 engine and will release in November.  Although not assigned an official title, the next Call of Duty has been confirmed by Activision and will also release in November.  Both titles are expected to release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
