Introduction
I like playing video games. It’s a hobby of mine. I spend most of my time with the latest, most popular video games from the biggest companies in the world, but I also enjoy discovering hidden gems—some of which are actually new titles and some are just overlooked classics. In this blog post, I’m going to be talking about ten of my favorite underrated videogames that you might have missed or heard bad things about and not given them a chance. Let’s explore them one by one!
The Last of Us
The Last of Us is a survival horror game released in 2013. It was developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3. The story centers around Joel and Ellie, who must travel across a post-apocalyptic United States where survivors have been forced to join together in order to survive.
The gameplay consists of combat, stealth and exploration as you navigate various environments from abandoned cities to forests full of infected humans (or “clickers”). The enemies will attack you if they see you or hear you so your best strategy is often to hide and take them out when they’re not looking or while they’re distracted by something else. You can also use weapons like guns or knives but only if there’s no other way; the goal isn’t killing enemies but surviving long enough until the next objective shows up on your map so it’s best not waste bullets if there isn’t any reason why not do so!
Spec Ops: The Line
Spec Ops: The Line is a military shooter video game developed by Yager Development and published by 2K Games. It was released in June 2012 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 platforms. The game is set in a sand-blasted version of Dubai which has been destroyed by a series of cataclysmic sandstorms.
The player takes control of Captain Martin Walker who, along with two other members of Delta Force—Lieutenant Adams and Sergeant Lugo—are sent into Dubai on a rescue mission to find survivors from an earlier US operation called Operation Fortune Cookie that ended up being disastrously botched with the destruction of an entire battalion as well as heavy civilian casualties. Along the way they discover that they are not the only ones already there trying to accomplish their goals; both the CIA who have their own agenda as well as locals who want revenge against all outsiders but are too afraid or weak to do anything themselves.
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Sunshine is a platform game developed by Nintendo and published for the GameCube in 2002. It was the fourth 3D game in the Super Mario series, following Super Mario 64 and preceding Super Mario Galaxy 2. The game follows Princess Peach and her Toad courtiers as they travel to Isle Delfino on vacation, where they encounter an evil man named Shadow Mario who has been committing various crimes across the island. The player controls Mario as he goes through various levels to clean up Isle Delfino.
The story begins with a letter from Peach inviting Mario to come visit her at her castle in Toad Town. When he arrives, she informs him that she will be visiting Isle Delfino with some other Toads, including Yoshi and Luigi (who are told they can’t come). Before leaving on her trip, she gives him an F.L.U.D.D., which is used throughout the entire game to hover over watery areas or blast enemies away with water jets from its nozzle on top when pointed downward or sideways respectively – this tool can also be used as a flashlight during nighttime levels if necessary!
Max Payne 3
Max Payne 3 is another game that falls into the category of third-person shooter. However, unlike many other games in this genre, Max Payne 3 takes place in a more grounded setting. The story follows former detective turned vigilante Max Payne as he tries to find out why his family was killed and who was responsible for it all.
As with other Rockstar games like Grand Theft Auto V and L.A Noire, Max Payne 3 has an interesting story accompanied by great gameplay features like bullet time which slows down time for a short period of time so that you can shoot your enemies more accurately (or just look cool).
This may be one of those underrated video games but it’s definitely worth playing if you want something different than your usual FPS title or even if you want another reason to use your slow motion powers!
Nier
Nier is a JRPG developed by Cavia and published by Square Enix. It was released on June 26, 2010 for the PlayStation 3. The game is an entry in the Drakengard series and takes place in the same universe as NieR, another JRPG game that focuses on different characters.
It received mixed reviews from critics who praised its story but criticized its gameplay. The overall reception of Nier was positive and it sold over 500k units worldwide by 2011.
Metal Gear Solid V
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a stealth-action video game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows and OS X. It is the sequel to Ground Zeroes and a continuation of the Metal Gear series directed, designed, co-produced and written by Hideo Kojima.
The game takes place in 1984 following Raiden as he attempts to rescue Big Boss from imprisonment at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. After being found unconscious on board a tanker in Cuba after an attack from XOF that leaves their commanding officer Venom Snake (Big Boss) missing in action while leaving both soldiers DD James Cunningham as well as Quiet with amnesia due to psychological trauma caused by torture they must fight against mysterious organization XOF who seeks revenge against Diamond Dogs for what happened at Sahelanthropus base during Ground Zeroes incident before it was destroyed along side with Code Talker’s research data; meanwhile Skull Face attempts to make preparations for another project called “Manhattan” which involves using Vocal Cord Parasites on UAVs infected soldiers which will then infect entire population causing massive chaos across globe thus allowing him takeover United States Government once again using threat posed by Metal Gears left behind which were controlled by AIs created from Zero himself when he first launched them into space 25 years ago during Operation Snake Eater so if these AIs were ever reactivated then they would start attacking each other until only one remained standing making itself sole ruler over everything.”
Bayonetta 2
Bayonetta 2 is a hack and slash game that was released for the Wii U on October 24, 2014. It is a sequel to Bayonetta and was developed by Platinum Games. Nintendo published the game.
Bayonetta 2 takes place after the events of the first game, with Bayonetta fighting against many enemies while using her magic abilities in order to defeat them. The player has access to various weapons that can be used against these enemies, allowing them to attack multiple times before having their health depleted or dying if they take too much damage from an enemy attack (although there are some instances where this will not happen).
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2 is an open world survival horror video game developed and published by Konami for the Sony PlayStation 2.
The story follows James Sunderland who, after receiving a letter from his deceased wife Mary, travels to Silent Hill where he meets several people from his past as well as a few new faces. He experiences strange events and goes through psychological terrors after being in the town for only 12 hours.
With its excellent story, voice acting, graphics and music (especially the soundtrack), this game sets itself apart from other survival-horror titles on the market by creating an atmosphere that’s both unsettling and memorable. The gameplay itself consists of exploring different areas while dealing with various enemies along your journey; however it manages to be challenging without feeling overly frustrating at any point in time because there are multiple ways you can progress through levels depending on how you want to play them.
Cave Story+
Cave Story+ is a 2D platformer game developed by Studio Pixel and published by Nicalis. It is an enhanced remake of the 2004 game Cave Story, which was also developed by Studio Pixel. The game was released for the Wii U on June 20, 2015 in North America and Europe, and on September 30th for Windows PCs through Steam.
The gameplay is similar to that of many other classic 2D platformers such as Mega Man X or Super Metroid; you must explore various areas while fighting enemies and collecting power-ups to progress through each area. However unlike those games this one features co-operative multiplayer where two players can play together at any time either locally or online!
Catherine
- Catherine is a puzzle-platformer game about Vincent, who’s caught in a love triangle. The game is inspired by the poem The Inferno and has you playing as Vincent, who must climb his way out of hell to find his true love. Catherine was released in 2011 and was developed by Atlus.
