The second episode of Telltale Games’ Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series was released recently and like the popular novel series and TV show it’s based on, it picks up right where the first episode left off. Does The Lost Lords continue to pull fans in? Or does the pacing begin to slow down? Before you read this review, I encourage you to check out our review for the first episode, Iron From Ice.

Iron From Ice left us in shock as we witnessed the death of an important character. In The Lost Lords, we get to see how this and other key moments affect the House Forrestor. We are also introduced to some new characters and see a familiar face or two. While Cersei appears to be quite busy in King’s Landing, we get to see how Jon Snow is faring on the Wall. Despite a brief mention in passing, we are teased about the Khaleesi, Daenerys Targaryen. I certainly hope we get to see her at some point in the game, though this is unlikely.

With the departure of one character, we are given the perspective of two characters; Rodrick, last seen at the beginning of episode one, and Asher, a Forrestor exiled to the East. You still get to see how things are going for Gared at the Wall and Mira in King’s Landing. Overall, I still enjoyed the storylines for each character though I wished for more time with Asher. They might have lacked the same intensity as the first episode but I feel that it might be a bit tough to top the ending from Iron From Ice. That isn’t saying that The Lost Lords doesn’t have its moments of surprise and action. It just feels like it takes some time to build up to them.

The gameplay for the second episode is handled in the same fashion as the first episode and other Telltale Games titles. You use the WASD keys to move about the screen and choices are timed. This means you’ll need to be on your toes when the choices appear as the wrong one could turn the tides against you. Your experience is influenced by the choices made in the first episode and the choices made in The Lost Lords will affect the upcoming episodes.

While I could repeat my thoughts on the graphics and sound quality for this episode, I want to focus on the slight issues I had with each. There was an part towards the end of the episode where I had to restart the section due to failing to push the buttons at the right time/frequency. During my second attempt which can be viewed here, the sound had gone out and the scene seemed to skip a bit. This could have been an one-time occurrence but it was worth pointing out.

You could play through The Lost Lords multiple times in hopes of getting what might be the best choices for the upcoming episodes. But the fun, for most, will be in seeing how your initial choices affect the course of the game. With the length of the episode being roughly two hours long, you can easily get through it in one sitting.

The second episode in Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series is enjoyable and continues the tale of House Forrestor. But it feels as though the pacing is a bit more subdued than was in the first one. If you’ve played the first episode, I do feel that you should continue on with this one. But for those who might have put off getting the Season Pass which allows you access to all six episodes as they are released, it might be best to wait and see how the story unfolds.
