The Skylander series has been around since 2011. The first game, Spyro’s Adventure, was the one that started it all. It quickly became a huge hit and still remains a top seller today. The series has expanded over the years to include multiple different games with different characters for each game. In total there are currently 26 different titles in this popular series!
As you may know from reading my other articles on this blog, I am an avid gamer who loves to play video games whenever I get the chance (which isn’t often enough). So when I heard about a new game called Spyro’s Adventure coming out soon after Christmas last year, I was excited to see what kind of adventure awaited me!
For those of you who don’t know about the game, the premise is that for each game you buy a starter pack that comes with 3 toys, each a different character from the game. You also get a little plastic platform known as the “portal”.
As we all know, the game is about you and your special character that you’ve chosen to be your player. I chose Spyro because he’s purple.
In order for this to work, every character has their own toy or “toy” (actually just a miniature plastic version of themselves) which comes with a little platform known as the “portal”. The portal allows these characters to come into the game world where they are then essentially used as your player when they run out of health and die in battle. When this happens simply switch out characters with another one and they will heal while fighting enemies in real time! It’s pretty awesome if I do say so myself!
The Portal is used to transfer your characters into the game where they are used as your player. You can play as any of your characters in the game (except bosses). When they run out of health you simply change to another character and your previous character will heal in the background.

Each Skylander comes with a little card that has their stats on it so you can compare them to other Skylanders and pick skills that work with your style of play.
- Each Skylander comes with a little card that has their stats on it so you can compare them to other Skylanders and pick skills that work with your style of play.
- Stats are shown in the game, but they’re also shown on the toy itself. They include elemental alignment and health, attack strength, defense strength and speed.
But what really makes this series worth playing is how different each Skylander feels from one another. Different characters have different play styles which means that every time you try a new character it feels like playing an entirely new game because it requires you to approach challenges from different angles and use sometimes radically different tactics.
The most important thing that makes this series stand out is how different each Skylander feels from one another. Different characters have different play styles which means that every time you try a new character it feels like playing an entirely new game because it requires you to approach challenges from different angles and use sometimes radically different tactics.
One of my favorite examples is the difference between Gill Grunt and Snap Shot. Gill Grunt has fewer attacks, but they’re all very powerful, while Snap Shot can shoot three times in rapid succession while moving around (which makes her amazing for taking down enemies on ledges). However, she’s not as strong in combat and can only attack once per turn instead of twice like Gill Grunt does with his spear-throwing ability. Each character also has unique strengths outside of combat: some can jump higher than others or swim better underwater so there’s always something useful about each character even if you don’t care about using them to fight enemies!
Another thing that makes this series great is the stellar voice acting! Throughout the games there are some great names lending their voices for various parts including Patrick Warburton, Bobcat Goldthwait and Billy West among many others! Their performances really bring these characters to life and make the story feel more cohesive.

If you’ve never played a Skylander game before or have heard about them but never checked out one of their titles, I highly recommend starting with Spyro’s Adventure for all ages (I played it as an adult myself). It’s fun for kids but also has enough charm and humor that adults will enjoy it too.
Conclusion
So if you’re looking for something new to play and want a fun story with great voice acting then look no further than the Skylander games. They’re some of the most fun games I’ve played in a long time and I highly recommend them!
