Introduction
Video games are amazing. They take us to places we may never be able to visit and allow us to do things that we would likely not be able to do in real life. Video games bring out the competitor in all of us, even if it is just playing Mario Kart with your friends. But some video games have been more popular than others throughout the years and have established themselves as being above and beyond the rest of the video game world. Here are the top ten best selling video games of all time:
Wii Sports
Wii Sports is a sports video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii video game console. It was bundled with the console at its launch in November 2006, but has also been sold as a standalone title.
Wii Sports is a compilation of five sports games included with the Wii video game console: tennis, baseball, bowling, golf and boxing. The player controls his or her character using motion controllers called Wii Remotes to perform actions typical of the sport (such as swinging at a baseball).
Minecraft
Minecraft is a sandbox video game created by Swedish game developer Markus Persson, better known as Notch, and later fully developed and published by Mojang.
Minecraft is considered the best-selling PC game of all time. It has been praised for its creative gameplay and flexibility in player choice, but criticized for its lack of direction.
It was initially launched with Survival mode only but later added Creative mode (a freeform building mode) and Hardcore mode (a variant of Survival where permanent death occurs if you die). A port to Xbox 360 avatars was released on 17 May 2012; later ports include PlayStation 3 on 14 December 2013, PlayStation Vita on 14 December 2014 and Wii U on 17 November 2015. On 9 May 2016 an Xbox One version was released; it has been released digitally through the [email protected] Game Preview program since September 2016.
Tetris
If you’re familiar with video games at all, you probably already know that Tetris is a puzzle game. It was created by Alexey Pajitnov in 1984 and originally released on the Electronika 60. Since then, it has been ported to many platforms including the Game Boy, Windows 3.1 and even iOS devices such as iPhones and iPads. The basic premise of Tetris is simple: you control falling blocks that fall from above into a pit at the bottom of your screen (or monitor). You have to rotate them so they fit together without creating empty spaces or gaps between them; otherwise your score will decrease by one point for each gap made during play time (though this can be countered by creating lines).
Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto V is an action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on 17 September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; it was later released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and Microsoft Windows in April 2015. The game is played from a third-person perspective; players complete missions—linear scenarios with set objectives—to progress through the story. The open world design lets players freely roam Los Santos, which consists of three main islands: San Andreas; a fictional city based on Los Angeles, California. In single-player mode, players control three protagonists: Michael De Santa, Trevor Philips, and Franklin Clinton.
The game has been critically acclaimed since its release with praise being directed at its multiple protagonist design, open world gameplay and mission variety. However some critics have disapproved of the detailed depiction of violence in both gameplay elements as well as cutscene sequences featuring torture scenes that have been cited as unnecessarily gratuitous to appeal to young gamers who may play this type of game without understanding what they are really seeing or experiencing such gruesome acts firsthand ever before so they might not understand how wrong things can get when people turn their violent urges against other humans even though it happens all too often these days thanks to our modern society we live in where everyone seems like they’re always looking out only for themselves rather than helping each other out when there’s trouble brewing around them but hopefully someday soon things will change again so that everyone feels safe enough again to let their guards down a little bit more often which would make life easier overall for everyone involved –
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros., while commonly referred to simply as “Super Mario,” is a platform video game developed and published by Nintendo. It was released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. and in the rest of the world as The Lost Levels or All-Stars depending on the region. There are two distinct versions of the game: one for the American market (known as Super Mario Bros) and another for Europe/Australia (known as The Lost Levels).
The game revolves around Mario’s quest to save Princess Toadstool from King Koopa and his Koopalings. In order to do this, he must travel across eight worlds consisting of 96 levels within them that span from deep forests to underwater kingdoms in order to reach their domain at Bowser’s castle before their time runs out.[4]
Mario Kart Wii
Mario Kart Wii is a racing video game for the Nintendo Wii console and was released in 2008. It was the first Mario Kart game to be released on a home console and had the most sales of any Mario Kart game at that point in time.
The game features an assortment of classic characters from previous titles including Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, Bowser and Yoshi. The title also introduced Mii characters into the franchise for the first time. This feature allowed players to create their own avatars which could then be used as playable characters in multiplayer races against friends or other players online
Wii Sports Resort
The Wii Sports Resort video game was released in 2009 by Nintendo for the Wii, as well as its motion-sensitive controllers: the Wii MotionPlus accessory and the Wii Balance Board. It also requires players to use the Wii Zapper (a gun-like controller), which has become a staple of many shooting games. The only nonmotion controller required for this game is your standard remote control and nunchuk combo.
The main selling point of this game is that it allows you to experience some of your favorite sports in a brand new way—using motion controls! This means that instead of just pressing buttons on a controller while watching as your player performs an action, with this game you can actually swing at baseballs or fire arrows at targets yourself!
New Super Mario Bros.
New Super Mario Bros. is a platform game for the Nintendo DS. It was released in 2006 and sold 20 million copies, making it one of the best selling games for that console. As the name suggests, it’s a new installment in the Mario series and has great gameplay mechanics that make it fun to play again and again!
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a multiplayer online battle royale video game developed and published by Bluehole. In the game, up to one hundred players parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill others while avoiding getting killed themselves. After being dropped into the map, players can engage in combat with other players or avoid them as they attempt to survive and escape the area. The last player or team standing wins the round.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was first released in Early Access on March 23, 2017 on Microsoft Windows via Steam’s early access program, before coming out of it on December 20th of the same year after receiving positive reviews from critics who praised its open world gameplay but criticised its technical issues such as bugs and frame rate drops.[1] A few months later it came out for Xbox One through its Game Preview Program[2] before releasing for PlayStation 4 at E3 2018[3]. It has also recently announced that there will be mobile versions coming soon.
