Ranking The 10 Greatest Video Games of All Time

Introduction

Welcome to my list of the 10 greatest video games ever made! This is a list of 10 video games that I personally believe have the most compelling stories, characters and overall unique gameplay. These are arguably some of the most recognizable and culturally significant video games by anyone’s standards, as well as being fun to play.

Super Mario 64

In 1996, Super Mario 64 was released for the Nintendo 64 and it was everything people wanted from a 3D platformer. It had so many innovative features that it gave us a taste of what gaming would be like for years to come.

The game introduced players to a number of new mechanics that were essential for future games in the genre: there were interactive objects in each level (such as switches), you could collect coins and power-ups that gave you an advantage over enemies, and there was even a camera system where you could change angles at any time during gameplay. These elements have been used countless times since they first appeared here!

The Legend of Zelda-Ocarina of Time

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a classic game that can be considered one of the best video games ever made. It was released for the Nintendo 64 system in 1998 and it has been ported to other systems since then.

This action-adventure game follows the protagonist Link, who travels between two worlds: Hyrule and the evil world called Termina. In order to save Termina from its impending destruction at midnight on New Year’s Eve (which happens because Skull Kid stole Majora’s Mask), you have to travel through time and gather three spiritual stones as well as collect masks so that you can defeat monsters or transform into different forms with special powers.

Pokemon Red and Blue

Pokemon Red and Blue are the best selling video games of all time and introduced the concept of a “trainer.” A trainer is a character who catches Pokemon, trains them and then battles other trainers.

This aspect of Pokemon was new at the time, as most games involved shooting or fighting enemies rather than training animals.

The idea of catching Pokemon was also new to many people. The original game had 151 Pokemon you could catch in the wild, but in later versions there are over 750 different species available to capture.

The concept behind battling other trainers is another innovative feature that hasn’t been replicated by any other game series yet (although it’s similar to how some board games work). In fact, Pokemon has its own league called The Elite Four where players can face off against four elite trainers for ultimate bragging rights!

Tetris

Tetris is the best video game ever made. It’s simple, easy to play, and incredibly addictive. It’s one of those games that you can just pick up and play whenever you want without much thought or effort.

Gran Turismo 2

Gran Turismo 2 is the best racing simulator of all time. It has everything you could ever want from a video game: incredible graphics, an incredible soundtrack, and an incredible amount of cars to choose from (over 100). This game has been praised for its realism and for its realism alone.

Gran Turismo 2 was released in 1999 by Sony Computer Entertainment as part of their PlayStation series. In addition to being one of the most popular games ever made in terms of sales (it sold more than 6 million copies), it also received several awards including “Game Of The Year” at the 2000 Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony held at San Jose Convention Center during Game Developers Conference 2000. The game has won other notable awards such as “Best Racing Game Award” at E3 1998/99 and “Best Driving Simulation Award” at E3 2001/02

Goldeneye 007

Goldeneye 007 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It was first released in Europe on June 25, 1997 and later that year in North America. The game’s popularity led to its being re-released as an exclusive launch title for the GameCube console in 2002 and for download on the Virtual Console service for Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U starting from May 30, 2007.

Goldeneye 007 features a selection of single player and multiplayer modes including story mode where players assume the role of James Bond with objectives such as defending British intelligence or rescuing hostages from Janus henchmen; mission mode which consists of 20 levels similar to those found in story mode but without cutscenes; deathmatch which allows players to compete against each other; practice mode where players can hone their skills without having to worry about scores or lives remaining; time trial where they can try completing each level under specific conditions such as collecting all bonus items (e.g., weapons) or reaching checkpoints within certain time limits

Grand Theft Auto 3

GTA 3 is the best game ever made. It’s also the best game in the GTA series and one of the most influential titles in gaming history. With its gritty crime-drama storyline, expansive open-world environment, and innovative gameplay mechanics (like its revolutionary camera system), GTA 3 set a new standard for how open-world games should be made. The fact that it’s still being played today is proof of how timeless this masterpiece really is.

If you’ve never played it before or haven’t played it since 2004, give yourself some time to dive back into this classic on PC or console (or mobile) and see what all the fuss was about!

Halo

The first-person shooter game Halo is a science fiction video game that was released in 2001. It’s the first game to be released on the Xbox, and it became the best-selling Xbox game of all time.

Halo is set in the 26th century where humanity has gone into space and colonised other planets such as Earth’s moon, Mars, Venus and Jupiter’s moon Europa. In this futuristic world you play as an unnamed soldier who fights against the Covenant (aliens) with his AI unit Cortana by his side throughout his adventures across various planets with his UNSC comrades including Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 (the protagonist).

Portal 2

Portal 2 is a first-person puzzle-platform video game developed and published by Valve Corporation. The sequel to Portal, it was released in April 2011 for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

In Portal 2, you play as Chell in an abandoned Aperture Science facility that has been overrun by robots and other gizmos. Your job is to navigate each level using your portal gun and find your way out of the various rooms you’re trapped in.

Portal 2 was highly praised by critics upon its release for its writing and voice acting; it won over 50 Game of the Year awards,[8] including those from BAFTA,[9] Spike TV[10]and the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.[11] It also swept IGN’s Best of 2011 Awards — Best PC Game,[12] Best Story[13], Best Graphics Technology[14], Most Addictive Game[15], Most Innovative Design[16], Most Memorable Moment[17].[

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). It has been around since 2004 and currently has over 100 million players.

Warcraft has won numerous awards, including the Game Developers Choice Awards’ “Best PC Game of 2005” award, IGN’s “2007 Best PC Game”, Gamespot’s “2007 Best PC RPG”, Spike TV’s “2008 Best PC Game”. Four expansion packs have been released since its release: The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008), Cataclysm (2010) and Warlords of Draenor (2014).

These 10 games have the best stories and most compelling characters.

  • Overwatch
  • Portal 2
  • Half-Life 2
  • The Last of Us Remastered
  • The Walking Dead: Season 1 (Episode 1-5)
  • Civilization IV
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – Gold Edition

Conclusion

If you haven’t played any of the games on this list, I can’t recommend them highly enough. The games in this list are definitely not for everyone and some of them require dedication to play, but if you ever find yourself wanting a video game that will offer hours of enjoyment as well as challenge, then these are the perfect choice.
