If you’re reading this, then you either:
- Are a horror game aficionado and can’t wait to get stuck into Outlast 2.
- Think watching videos of people playing Outlast 2 is scary enough for you and that’s good enough for now.
If it’s the former, I’m going to assume you know what Outlast 2 is, but just in case: It’s an ultra-realistic horror game set in Arizona (why not?) where your character needs to escape from various cult members—including the oddly-named Father Loutermilch—and their equally odd-looking offspring who wear creepy masks and act like they’re on meth or something. The aim of the game is to complete it without losing your mind or actually dying. Or maybe that’s just my aim? At any rate, I want to let you in on some tips that should help you survive this horrific adventure:
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
Most players can agree that the first time playing a game is always a little rough. You’re not familiar with all of the controls, you might be learning how to use them, and you have no idea what will happen next.
This isn’t exactly an ideal situation when you’re already in a stressful situation like Outlast 2. But don’t worry! The great thing about video games is that they’re meant to be fun, so if you feel like things are getting too hard or frustrating, there’s nothing wrong with taking some time off before returning later on when your skills have improved. And luckily for us, there are plenty of ways to practice before diving into this horrifying world full-force:
- Playing other horror games – The easiest way to get better at playing horror games (or any type of game) is simply by playing other versions of it! If you’ve played Resident Evil 7: Biohazard before but want more horror experiences like it then check out Alone in the Dark 4; if survival horrors aren’t really your speed but maybe puzzle solving sounds good then try Silent Hill Shattered Memories instead
This is the first tip to stay alive in Outlast 2. The game will try its hardest to scare you, distract you, and make you feel like someone is watching or following you. You should always be on guard for these things and never let them distract you from your goal of escaping this asylum. Stay alert!
LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES
- Learn from your mistakes—try to avoid making the same mistakes twice
- Don’t be afraid to fail
- Don’t be afraid to make mistakes
SOME TRICKS ARE TRICKY
As you play Outlast 2, you’ll notice that the game relies on batteries. These items are necessary to power your flashlight and camera, but they’re also key to your survival. Without batteries, your weapons won’t work and you’ll be left in the dark as enemies close in around you.
The trick is that there are two types of batteries: standard batteries (the ones found scattered around the asylum) and rechargeable ones (which can only be found by looking for electrical outlets). The latter variety will always recharge if plugged into an outlet; however, if used up before being recharged then it’s gone forever!
In other words: when using this item as part of your strategy for beating Outlast 2 keep track of how many times it has been used so that its usefulness isn’t wasted due to carelessness.”
TURN DOWN THE VOLUME
If you are scared of horror games, or just want to play Outlast 2 in a more relaxed way, then I recommend turning down the volume. This is easy to do on a PC by going into your settings and adjusting the master volume down. If you are playing with headphones or speakers, turn them down too.
For those who don’t want to miss out on any important audio cues within the game but would still like to avoid getting startled by loud sounds (like footsteps), consider playing through Outlast 2 with a surround sound system instead of just stereo speakers.
LOOK AT THE DARKNESS AS IF IT IS REAL
You will be in a horror game, so you need to be prepared. You have to be aware of your surroundings and ready to react quickly. You have to be able to think on your feet and stay calm under pressure.
How can you do this? Well, the first thing is by looking at the darkness as if it’s real!
NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER GO IN THE BASEMENT!
There are many things you should do in this game, but there is one thing that you should never ever do: go down the basement. The basement is where the worst monsters spawn and can find their way up to your level. If you hear something coming up from below, RUN!
Although Outlast 2 is an amazing game, if you get through it alive.
If you’re new to the series, Outlast 2 is a great game to play with friends. The game can be very scary and might make you jumpy, but it will make for an awesome weekend getaway!
In fact, Outlast 2 is a great game for any night of the week: whether it’s Sunday or Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday… even Thursday and Friday nights.
Although I’m not sure if you will ever make it to the end of the game, I hope these tips will help you along your journey! Don’t let me down now!
