After five days of voting Andrew McCutchen was just announced as the cover athlete for MLB 13 The Show. With 108,147 votes, McCutchen became the first NL player since 2008 when Ryan Howard was on the cover. McCutchen had a great season for the Pirates and just fell short of batting title, which he lost to Buster Posey. He was also in the running for the cover but came in 6th; don’t feel too bad for him tough as he won the World Series, batting title, and NL MVP this year.
The AL MVP and first triple crown winner since 1967, Miguel Cabrera, came in third with 76,739 votes. If the cover wasn’t put up for a vote, Cabrera would have likely taken home the cover seeing as its been 45 years since the last triple crown winner. That said, I love that Sony left it up to the fans and a player who put up monster numbers for a struggling team is going to grace the cover of MLB 13. Even though there are some pretty upset fans out there about the results, none of them can argue about the results. Check out the complete results of the voting below:
1. Andrew McCutchen | 108,147 votes |
2. C.C Sabathia | 89,054 votes |
3. Miguel Cabrera | 76,739 votes |
4. Matt Kemp | 72,466 votes |
5. Bryce Harper | 43,542 votes |
6. Buster Posey | 31,508 votes |
7. Ryan Braun | 13,153 votes |
